Backseat Rally splits one rally car between two jobs: the driver reacts to the road while a co-driver reports the bends ahead. You can fill the passenger seat with a friend, leave it open for another player, or use an AI co-driver when playing alone. The quickest first session is to choose Play → Drive, select the starter car, choose the AI option, spawn, stop inside the stage’s start box, and follow the countdown.

This section focuses on the decisions that happen before the timer starts. Use the beginner route when you want one complete first-run sequence, the controls page when a prompt or key is blocking progress, and the friends page when you need to fill the co-driver seat.

Choose your role before choosing a car

Drive puts you behind the wheel. You control acceleration, braking, steering, recovery, and the handbrake, while the passenger or AI handles calls. Co-Drive puts you in the navigator’s seat beside another driver. Free Roam lets you move around the service area without beginning a timed attempt. Select the role that matches what you want to practice rather than treating every Play option as a different difficulty.

New drivers should begin with Drive and an AI co-driver. That removes invitation timing from the first session and lets you focus on the start box, the countdown, and the car. A new co-driver can instead join a patient friend, read the displayed direction and severity together, and keep each spoken call short.

First-stage route from menu to finish

Open Play, choose Drive, and select a car you own. New accounts have access to the Orso 4 according to current play records. Continue to the co-driver choice and select AI CO-DRIVER for solo play, INVITE for a named server player, or LEAVE SEAT OPEN for an available passenger. Spawn the car and follow the distance indicator toward the stage start.

Drive fully into the marked box and use the brake until the car stops. The prompts distinguish positioning from motion: STOP IN THE START BOX means the vehicle is not yet placed correctly, while BRAKE TO A STOP means the car is still moving. When START STAGE appears, press Enter. Wait for the red-light countdown and accelerate when the green GO signal appears.

After the finish, the game can show a replay and then a Rewards breakdown. Enter skips or continues where labelled; G returns to the garage on the documented results screen. Read account XP, CR, medal bonuses, contract progress, and car mastery as separate rows. A large total from one run should not be treated as a guaranteed payout for every stage.

These are PC keyboard observations, not a promise that mobile and controller layouts use the same actions. Open the game’s current controls screen on another device and follow the visible prompts there.

Use calls as preparation, not commentary

The immediate cue combines direction with severity. A SLIGHT left asks for a gentler left bend; a HARD left warns of a sharper left. The co-driver should call the immediate bend first and only then mention the next displayed direction. The driver needs the information before braking, not while already sliding past the turn.

For a tight bend, lift or brake before steering, then use a short handbrake input if the rear needs help rotating. Holding the handbrake too long can remove steering control, especially on wet, muddy, or snowy surfaces. Smooth exits usually save more time than entering every bend at the highest possible speed.

Recover without discarding a good run

Read the label attached to the recovery key. During a timed stage, R — Last checkpoint returns you to the route while keeping the attempt alive with its consequences. Holding Backspace restarts from the start box. Before a run, R — Back to the box solves a missed start area. These actions look similar but serve different goals.

Reverse with S when the car only needs a small reposition. Use checkpoint recovery when the car is off route or trapped. Restart when the attempt is no longer useful for your medal or practice goal. Choosing the smallest recovery avoids throwing away a clean first half of the stage.

Practice in a useful order

First finish one stage without worrying about a medal. On the second run, learn where the hardest bend follows the co-driver call. On the third, reduce one repeated mistake, such as braking after rather than before a HARD cue. Only then compare medal time or enter a player race. This progression gives you a stable reference before variables such as collisions, class restrictions, weather, and a human caller are added.

Use Arcade handling and a comfortable call setting while learning if those current options are available. Move to Sim or change brake assistance only when you can describe the behavior you want to change. Switching several settings at once makes it difficult to know which choice improved the car.

Where to go next

Open Cars when the question is which vehicle to select, Stages when you need surface and route information, and Racing for calls, multiplayer settings, and faster clean runs. Use Progression after a finish to understand XP, CR, contracts, and unlocks. The Garage covers crates, appearance, parts, and paid offers without mixing them into the first-drive instructions.
